Last year on a trip out to the Los Angeles area I got to experience one of L.A.’s legendary ramen joints, DAIKOKUYA. This place is a tiny no frills grungy hole in the wall that puts out awesome ramen and rice bowl dishes. We went for lunch and let me say the 20-30 minutes that we had to wait for a table was well worth. As a matter of fact we ended up sitting at the bar because that was what was available.
We ordered 2 bowls of their “signature” dish; Daikoku ramen. The dish is absolutely amazing! The perfectly cooked ramen is swimming in a beautifully rich tonkatsu broth adorned with such goodness as pork belly, eggs, beansprouts, etc. etc. Sure you can get tonkatsu ramen anywhere, but not everyone makes it to such a high standard. This joint had been in L.A. for a very long time and the dish I had gives me a hint as to why. Go visit; you won’t be disappointed!
