CIANO…the return of Shea Gallante

Shea Gallante…here’s a chef I really like that for some reason or another,  it’s taken me 2 years to check out his latest venture CIANO!!
CIANO is basically an Italian restaurant that doesn’t serve the stereotypical “Little Italy” Italian dishes.  Instead it’s “farm to fork” ideology combined with masterful creativity, which in turn yields dishes that are visually beautiful as well as exquisite tasting!   YUP…I LIKE THIS JOINT!!
Shea Gallante is one of my favorite chefs!  I remember the outstanding food he put out when he was chef at CRU in the W. Village, and while I’m not quite remembering his stint at Bouley, I do remember the food being fantastic so….guess he did some fine work there too.
I ended up dining at CIANO thanks to a “Bloomspot” discount. (Think Groupon, Living social, Gilt..etc, etc.)  What can I say…3 course meal with wine pairings for 2 people; best $110 ever spent!!!!  Here’s the menu choices:
Featured prix fixe menu

Primi | choice of one per person:
Savory Crêpes
Filled with ricotta, spinach, zucchini, and swiss chard
Rainbow Beets
Whipped robiola, wild watercress, and 12-year aged balsamic
Roasted Veal Meatballs
Served with creamy, white polenta with herbs and truffle pecorino
Secondi | choice of one per person:
Filet of Sole
Baked and served with arugula, prosciutto, and a ragù of rock shrimp and asparagus
Pappardelle Pasta
Duck bolognese, oregano, and pecorino di noce
Roasted Chicken
Served with fregola sarda, sweet pepper, and dandelion
Dolci | choice of one per person:
Whipped mascarpone, espresso-soaked ladyfingers, and white coffee gelatoCioccolato
Valrhona flourless chocolate cake, gianduja ganache, and chocolate gelato

The food was absolutely fantastic and the wines that were paired with the first 2 courses matched up nicely!  One other contributing factor to the pleasant overall experience was our waiter Roberto!  Very attentive and absolutely wonderful dude to converse with!  He truly made the experience that much more outstanding.  If you go visit, definitely ask for him.

I’m excited for CIANO and I hope Shea stays with it for many years to come!!
